Newport Officers’ Club Wedding | Kathleen + Michael
Newport Officers’ Club Wedding | Kathleen + Michael
It’s Tuesday, and I’m so happy to share beautiful moments from Kathleen and Mike’s Newport Officers’ Club wedding from this past Friday. It was such an honor to photograph their wedding and celebrate with their families.
Read more about their story, their wedding day, and enjoy a few favorites from their day.
Kathleen and Mike’s story began when they met a little over 4 years ago at a local tavern. During this span of time, a beautiful relationship blossomed between two amazing people who are such a light together.
Kathleen has such an endearing way about her. She is gentle, kind, and thoughtful.
Mike is a ball of joy, humorous, and he makes her smile in the sweetest way.
To know them is to love them.
My eyes tear up as I think back to their wedding reception and one of the youngest people in the room was excited to give the speech that he prepared about his Uncle Mike and Aunt Kathleen–you are amazing and I love you, he said.

On one of the coldest days in January, after they were both recovering from colds, Mike had an idea that they should go ice skating. Haha!!
It’d be fun! (I’m ad-libbing here, but this sounds exactly like what Mike would say.)
That day, Kathleen said more than yes to ice skating. She said yes to Mike asking her to marry him. Love, Love, Love!!
Believe or not, I first met Kathleen when she was finishing up high school and on her way to college!
When her mom called to say that she was engaged and getting married this year, I was beside myself!
The moment they stepped into the studio, it felt like a reunion. I was so happy to see them both!! We caught up, talked about all things wedding, flipped through a few wedding albums, and then Kathleen showed me her dress. OMG!! It was the perfect dress for her! Classic, elegant and oh, so beautiful. I know you want to scroll down to see it, but keep reading:)
We started their day getting ready at a local hotel near the venue.
The conversations, the laughter, the hugs, the twirling of the flower girl in her dress were sweet and precious.
The light coming through the window was warm, and the glow on Kathleen’s face when she was all dressed made it even warmer.
They shared a first look with the wedding party cheering them on from inside the trolley and through the opened windows, and then they had a private moment before boarding together.
They’d prepared handwritten notes to share with each other, and the moment was priceless.
There were a few sprinkles of rain before the ceremony started, but maybe ten minutes before the start time, the officiant and I high fived each other as the sun came out from behind the clouds.
A gorgeously designed arch, framed them perfectly as they listened to scripture readings, words from the officiant, said their vows and exchanged rings.
The words from their officiant were full of wisdom and encouragement.
Don’t ever forget your story.
Don’t wait to forgive.
Don’t stop believing.
(from their ceremony)
Because of the rain earlier in the day, we finished up the wedding party photos and photos of the two of them after the ceremony. The light was lovely!!
Their wedding colors were a perfect combination of navy, blush, and cream. Giti designed beautiful bouquets that were soft and delicate. The dahlia’s in Kathleen’s bouquet were show stoppers.
The staff at the Newport Officers’ Club was fantastic The ballroom was decorated beautifully and the reception evening was indeed a celebration.
Congratulations, Kathleen and Mike!! It was an absolute honor and delight to be with you on your wedding day!! I am incredibly happy for you two!! Don’t stop believing:) Sending big hugs your way!! xo, Shawon
